We also unpack the empire’s transition from “soft power” to “hard power”—a shift Benji likens to a dying star fusing heavier elements as its fuel runs out. When narrative control, cultural hegemony, and institutional legitimacy no longer suffice, the empire resorts to brute force: kidnapping operations, naval blockades, and economic warfare. But as Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz and Hezbollah’s FPV drone campaigns demonstrate, these tactics are increasingly ineffective—and often counterproductive.
The panel celebrates the “mosaic narrative defense”: decentralized, autonomous creators using AI, Lego animation, and meme culture to bypass Orientalist filters and speak directly to global audiences. These “halal slopaganda” videos aren’t just viral content; they’re strategic innovations that reclaim the narrative battlefield—the empire’s chosen arena—and turn it against its architects.
Finally, we address the psychological dimension of resistance. As Navid Farnia’s analysis of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle illustrates, when guerrilla tactics make roads too dangerous to patrol, occupation forces become garrison armies afraid to leave their barracks. Today’s FPV drone footage from Southern Lebanon achieves the same effect: the “whiz-whiz” of an incoming munition is breaking the Zionist self-image of invulnerability.
